This year, the event raised over $500,000 with all proceeds going directly to Free Arts' art mentoring programs for underserved youth. <img The Armory Show 2012 featured the work of the 2012 Commissioned Artist Theaster Gates and the vibrant art of the Nordic Countries in Armory Focus. The Armory Show engaged the award-winning, New York-based architectural firm Bade Stageberg Cox to redesign The Armory Show, creating a more comfortable, luxurious experience, including a new "farm-to-table" restaurant and cafe by Great Performances. I first came across his work in Art Basel Miami last year and I immediately recognized his silky and shiny black paintings capturing sensual movements on an aluminum surface. By Karen Ko The SCOPE Art Show returned to New York City for its eleventh year at a 30,000 square foot pavilion on 57th Street and 12th Avenue. SCOPE New York, featured over 50 international galleries and museum-quality programming with a focus on groundbreaking, emerging work in contemporary art and beyond. SCOPE New York’s First View took place on March 7, 2012, with proceeds benefitting New York-based non-profit, Chashama. The art show also featured the launch of SCOPE Foundation Series, a platform that showcased a variety of projects, events and performances across multiple creative genres, including art, design, film and fashion. Proceeds from this series benefited The SCOPE Foundation, creating continued opportunities for emerging artists and galleries worldwide. The highlight of the auction was a single bottle of Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve, aged fifty five years, and is one of only eleven bottles in the world. This special Glenfiddich Reserve sold for $94,000, thus establishing a new world’s record for the most expensive bottle of whiskey ever sold at auction. The winner of the auction was renowned whisky investor and CEO of the Universal Whisky Experience Mahesh Patel who won the bottle after a fierce bidding war. Christie’s auctioneer Rachel Orkin-Ramey held the gavel until the final bid was announced at an astounding and record breaking price of $94,000. The extremely rare bottle of whiskey was created to commemorate the 110th birthday of Janet Sheed Roberts, granddaughter of founder William Grant.
