The Ace Hotel – New York

The Ace Hotel is one of those kitch-too cool for school places that exists in the middle of the bustling city. Located in the heart of Manhattan on 29th and fifth, the hotel is as industrial as it is a novelty. It is not one of those chichi pretentious places but it is down to earth with a character that supersedes the majority of Manhattan hotspots.

The lobby is a huge room with 20 foot ceilings. Enormous white pillars sit throughout the room while old school chandeliers hang from the ceilings. Circles of light sit around each enormous pillar and ceilings are decorated ornately. Floral patterns and skylights fill the grand space and produce a sense of life and abundance.

The furniture is classic and brings together old world charm with contemporary ambiance. The main bar sits in front of vintage wooden wall and brings you back to a simpler time where good old fashioned times flourished. A long stone-washed wooden table sits in the middle of the space and is reminiscent of the 30s-40s grand news-era–you feel like you have stepped back in time for an instant.

Tiled floors are original and ornately decorated with grecian patterns of the mosaics of yesteryear–these tiled floors would never be recreated today because of their complexity. A grand staircase sits in the middle of the room–walls are tiles with black and white graffitti name tags with the words “killer,” “malicious” and “pyscho killer.” The ace hotel brings the best of a 30s/40s traditional vibe with the contemporary kitch we see today. This isn’t your grandma’s hotel.
